7 Things People Don't Know About Me

7 Things People Don't Know About Me

I know that this is an old list that's been going around, but I'm feeling like revealing a little bit about myself. Going for a bit of transparency here.

Saw Princess Lasertron's Things I Don't Want People to Know list and her cutie pie webbie and I thought 'why not give it a go?'.

1. I've never seen the movie "Superfly" or "Foxy Brown" or "Dolemite" or most of the blaxploitation films. I'd like to blame my parents, which is good for them that they wouldn't allow me to watch those films as a kid, but it's been, what, too many years to count, when I could have seen them on my one and I haven't. Oh, well, there goes my black card.

2. While I'm on the subject of films, can I just put it all out there? I've never seen all of "The Godfather" and I haven't seen "Scarface" at all. I think that this is as bad as it gets as it relates to movies ... and so I'll move on because, well, because I'd like for you to forget those first two and fast.

3. When I was young, like 2 years old, I used to have braces on my legs. Seems my feet just wouldn't do what they were supposed to do on their own which is point straight. I thought I saw a picture once, but I can't seem to find it lately.

4. Less than a year after I'd finished my undergrad degree, I'd lost two very close friends: one while still in college in a motorcycle accident and one soon after (murdered). They were like my brothers always looking out for me. Miss them both - a lot.

Sometimes I'll have a smoothie with my breakfast.

5. I eat breakfast almost daily. I love a big breakfast, though I don't eat a whole lot and I usually only get a big breakfast on days when I'm not working (time constraints). I'm a fan of pancakes, french toast, omelette's, turkey sausage or turkey bacon, grits, oatmeal and cereal. Not so big on bagels or muffins, but I might take some banana bread. Oh, and some juice. I like a nice breakfast to line my belly and get me off to a good start.

6. I've met some of my best and closest friends while working at WBLK in Buffalo. I thought I'd be there for a year or so and ended up staying for four years. Some of the worst winter storms of my life, seeing the Bills lose four Superbowls, breakfast at Mattie's, being a Girl Scout leader, frequent trips to Toronto and just some plain ole, ridiculous, knock down, drag out high end drama! My grandfather was right when he told me that Buffalo was just a "raggedy ass city", but the people are priceless. Not a day goes by when I'm not in touch w/someone from my Buffalo posse.

7. I fell in love once ... and with someone who was also madly in love w/me. You know how people are always saying 'live in the moment?' and 'enjoy the moment?' ... well, that's what I did then! Incredible. So glad that I had a chance to experience that. I used to regret that I let that guy go; that the relationship didn't go where it could have gone, which was down the aisle. But now ... today, I'm so glad I am where I am in my life and I would have never gotten here had I stayed there.

My Fav Meal of the Day

I like to eat. Some people might be surprised at that statement because they have never seen me eat anything so much as a cracker.

But it's true - I like to eat. However, I am just now conceding that I am a sort of picky eater, or so it seems. I do not eat beef or pork. Some folks equate that w/being a vegetarian, but I know better. I eat fish and fowl and dairy too; I am not a true vegan.

So why would someone think I'm finicky just because I do not eat beef and pork? Well, I try to eat healthy and stay away from bad things like fried foods and too much sugar and salt.

But back to the focus of this post ... as much as I love soup and salad, breakfast is my all time favorite meal of the day! The variety is endless: when I used to live in Buffalo (when I first gave up beef and pork, but not at the same time), I started having fish and grits for breakfast. Love that. I came to love going to Mattie's, a local restaurant, because they would grill or fry it, put some cheese on my grits and it would be all slow motion walking out of there. Just really good comfort food.

I also love waffles! Yummy! I just like a nice, hot waffle. I love when I go to a hotel and they have the complimentary breakfast w/the waffles where you pour the batter on the waffle maker and flip it over ... yeah ... I have recently been scouting out one of those devices.

Lastly, I like turkey sausage and potatoes and not necessarily together. I like to got to Cracker Barrel because they are one of the few restaurants that offer turkey sausage (and they are good; they also have a hashbrown casserole that is to die for).

Interestingly enough, I eat breakfast daily. Though I've taken to having cereal and generic corn flakes at that (though I do add honey). Some mornings I have oatmeal, but that's when I've run out of milk. But on the daily for me, it's a bowl of corn flakes by 9 a.m. ... and now you know.

Remember when

I've been thinking about my childhood and memories of growing up. Especially the time that I spent w/my mother's family. I spent time w/my dad's fam too, but not as much as my mom's fam.

My mom has four brothers and one sister. And my brother and I were the only grandchildren/niece/nephew for a while. And we often spent time w/an uncle, aunt or grandparents or lots of them at once.

One memory I recall is Sundays at my grandparents. If there was breakfast at home, then after breakfast, we would watch CBS Sunday Morning. It did not seem so interesting, but not so bad either. I watch CBS Sunday Morning til this day and I always think of my grandparents when I watch it.

Now, if we had breakfast out on Sunday morning, we went to this place called the Lantern in Akron. The Lantern has been closed for years, but it's shell still sits on Copley Road near I-77. It was a family owned greasy spoon, and the customer service was great. It was a good time; good food and fam.

Oh, and of course there was church. My great gran was a devout Christian; you know the kind who won't even play cards ... ? That was a cloud on our sunny day time and time again. I'm sure she thought that were destined to be heathens and card playing heathens at that. Good times ...
